My name is Caitlin. I am excited and looking forward to meeting you!
I began my music education at eight years old. Like many young musicians, I started lessons on the piano. I chose the piano, because I wanted to be just like my mom, who always played so beautifully at home. Later in school, we had to choose a band instrument. This is when I developed my love of the flute. I quickly realized that music would play a big role in my life. I couldn’t imagine my day to day life without music!
I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Music with a minor in Arts Administration from the University of Ottawa, and a Master’s Degree in Flute Performance from the University of Western Ontario (now Western University). I studied flute under the instruction of Natasha Harrison, Joanna G’Froerer and Fiona Wilkinson, and piano under Bryan Croft. I have also played in masterclasses and lessons with Robert Cram, Camille Churchfield, Carolyn Christie and Dr Amy Hamilton. I strive to continue to learn and develop as a teacher, and have completed training for Music for Young Children program, and the Royal Conservatory of Music Teacher Certification program.
My goal in lessons is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment for my students. I aim to provide an individualized approach, using different methods, games and genres, all while maintaining a disciplined and goal-oriented structure. I believe a strong foundation in music theory and technique can lead any student to reach their musical goals.
